Middle school dance: what to wear

Trying to pick out an outfit for a middle school dance can be really hard.I thought I had figured out what to wear for my Middle School Valentine's Dance when I found a beautiful vintage chic dress that had a black sparkly top and a dusty rose skirt that I looked great in. Then I found out that this dance was directly after school so you couldn't wear a dress. I was crushed! So I went shopping with my co-author/ best friend to find the perfect outfit. I knew that a t-shirt would not be acceptable so I started out the trip by searching for the perfect tank because I knew it would get hot when I was dancing in the gym,but every tank that I found was way too summery. I was giving up by time I got to Gap, then hidden in clearance track like a rhinestone in a bowl of black buttons. An asymmetrical ruffled gold tank that was absolutely beautiful and made me look tanner than I really am. I knew it was perfect so I started looking for pants. I really wanted a skinny pant that had a pop of color, so I picked out a really cute pair of fuchsia skinny jeans that looked really good with the gold in my tank.Add a simple fish tail braid and voila the perfect outfit. So here are some tips for looking your best at your dance

1. If you know for a fact that your dance is not formal than a tank definitely is the way to go because you can dress it up or down.

2. If you have a neutral colored tank try going for a pair of colored jeans to add a fun element to your outfit.

3. Metallic materials are great.

4. Make sure you can move around in your outfit.

5. Most importantly have fun with your outfit, don't play it safe!!!

6. Also be sure to have your hair pulled back from your face.

Hey everybody! In the collage (left) you see 3 different outfits. The chambray outfit~far left~can be worn for a casual, chic school outfit. The color of the top highlights the blue in the floral pants, excelling in the "blue for spring" category. The one on the far right can be worn to a more formal, slightly party occasion. The sheer, silky material of the vintage H&M top totally flows with the pop of our pink tomboy fit jeans. We have paired it with a silky, sparkly scarf as a little fun accesory. The bottom left outfit is a bit of a "weekend" outfit, with a high~low spunky tangerine graphic top. Its a perfect match when paired with light gray, polkadot jeggings (close up in bottom right). Pieces of all these outfits have come from everyday stores~kohls and H&M. Remember~chic, designer outfits can come from stores around you. You don't have to live in hollywood to be fashionable!!!

Blue!

Blue is officially the color of spring! Which makes me really excited because I love this color. Blue was showing up on the runway everywhere during this year's Fall Fashion Week in all different shades such as teal, aqua, and mint, just to name a few. Now my only caution is to be careful pairing it with blue jeans because if you do you could end up looking like a blueberry. One of my favorite ways to wear this color is teal jeans, they really add a pop of color to every outfit. Also don't be afraid to try mint with pastel colors its really trendy!

Pattern on Pattern: Its a love~hate relationship

Unless you are a runway designer, pattern on pattern can be hideous if you don't do it right. One of the most basic rules is to find two patterns that have a primary or pastel color that compliments the other. DON'T try to pair elaborate patterns together; the result will be more than trash~can worthy. Different textures, such as a chambray top on patterned corduroys, can only be done by the most elite designers. I personally don't agree with denim on denim, along with other textures (ex. corduroys)on the same texture. Floral on floral can be a deadly mixture if not done properly!!!

This rose braid is gorgeous....go tighter for a more casual look and, of course, looser for a formal updo!

We have discovered a really cute collection at j c penny by Nanette and her daughter Violet Lapore. This collection is super trendy. It uses a lot of bright colors which is really popular for spring this year especially an electric lime green color that look really good with the solid black which they used a lot in the collection. This collection is definitely on trend.
